Who am I and what is Gudmann Translations all about? What do I bring to the table? Please continue reading here to find out more.
Why me?
I am an experienced, reliable, and organized partner for your language needs. Friendly and respectful communication with clients as well as a great end product are cornerstones in my work. And I am certainly not afraid of technology.
Mission and values
I want to be your go-to language provider that makes your life easier while also ensuring correct and appropriate language use. My ultimate goal is to enrich the enormous legacy of translated works with fitting target texts.
My work is based on 3 main pillars:
Trust is essential
You need to be able to trust getting a good quality product that lives up to your expectations and fits the brief on time. That is what I offer.
The result that you need
Furthermore, my general approach is a holistic one that involves looking at the whole job at hand, making sure that everything is just right. That sometimes means me asking questions to unravel ambiguities or unintended mistakes and to ensure that I communicate the intended meaning throughout the text.
Integrity
Not only can you rely on my extensive linguistic knowledge and skills – I also have the experience and integrity to let you know if a project lies outside my skill set so that, when I take on your project, you can rest assured that you’ll be receiving a great result.
My fascination with languages
As a child growing up in Denmark, I quickly realized that I had a keen interest in languages. From a young age, I started watching children’s TV shows in English and at the age of 9, I put a ’Learning Spanish for Kids’ CD-ROM on my birthday wishlist.
Apart from all my extra-curricular activities growing up, spelling quizzes at school and receiving the latest edition of the Danish Language Council’s newsletter were some of my everyday highlights. Having attended English, French, German, Latin and Spanish classes all through my teens as well, I think it’s safe to say that I am a language nerd.
My education and professional career
Based off of my class mates’ remarks in our yearbook, it was no wonder that after attending Danish high school with a major in languages, I went on to study Linguistics and Spanish at the prestigious Aarhus University, having the time of my life. I continued my academic studies with a Master’s degree in International Business Communication in Spanish with a specialization in Translation and Interpreting, finishing as top of my class. During this degree, I completed internships at the Chilean Embassy to Denmark, the Translation Unit of the European Parliament, and a large language services provider (LSP) based in the US, gathering and soaking up as much knowledge and experience as I could.
Professional experience
Fresh out of uni, I was headhunted to work for the above-mentioned LSP where I spent about a year diligently recruiting and vetting top translators for the agency plus getting familiar with the language industry, translation software, and the intricacies of a translation agency.
All of these experiences made it possible for me to then, in the fall of 2016, start my own freelance business as a professional proofreader and translator, full time. Till this day, I’ve worked on so many interesting projects, applying and growing my skill sets, and I simply love my job. I hope to be able to pass on that joy to my clients.
